He highlights that FEZ management companies create attractive conditions for investors by quickly adapting manufacturing, storage, and logistics facilities to meet their needs. S. Petrulis also notes that the Parliament’s decision to allow defense industry companies to establish operations in FEZ territories is an important step that could significantly boost the development of these zones and help achieve an economic breakthrough.

A NEW STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT FOR BALTIC FEZ

The Baltic Free Economic Zone (in Lith. lang. Marijampolė LEZ, LT), which marks its 10th anniversary this year, is entering a new stage of development: it will build manufacturing facilities. New investors planning to produce higher- and medium-value-added products, whose objective is to focus on their manufacturing business, not on building design, real estate development and other construction activities, will be able to rapidly set up operations in these facilities. The first such Baltic FEZ building has already received a building permit and construction works are planned to start early next year.

FASTER SETTLEMENT OF INVESTORS IN BALTIC FEZ: CONSTRUCTION PERMIT GRANTED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF AN A++ INDUSTRIAL BUILDING

The 5,440-square-metre building will be built for potential investors who plan to manufacture higher-value-added and mid-range products. A++ INDUSTRIAL BUILDING FOR A FASTER ESTABLISHMENT OF INVESTORS IN BALTIC FEZ

UAB “MLEZ Infrastruktūra”, which is a 100% owned subsidiary of UAB “Marijampolės LEZ valdymo bendrovė” (MLEZ), and UAB “Viešųjų investicijų plėtros agentūra” (VIPA) (Public Investment Development Agency) have signed a contract for the design and construction of a approx. 5440 m2 manufacturing building and the necessary infrastructure for it in the Marijampolė Free Economic Zone (Baltic FEZ). The project, which is being partially financed with the VIPA loan from the national budget of the Republic of Lithuania, is planned to be completed by the end of 2024.

DIVAKS PLANT IN BALTIC FEZ

The company Divaks, which will operate in the #BalticFEZ, will produce innovative proteins that will be used in the food industry. It is planned to supply to the market about 15,000 tons of ingredients per year. The ingredients could be used in the production of meat, snacks, sports food industry.
The project will reach about 67 mln. euros of investments. The new factory will start operating in 2025.
“In order to offer the highest quality products to the market, we will use biotechnology and food industry innovations and the most modern equipment at the factory. This will ensure the optimal nutritional composition of the products, safety and the lowest production costs”, emphasizes Kęstutis Lipnickas, CEO of the company.

THE START OF “VIA BALTICA” RECONSTRUCTION

“Via Baltica” reconstruction between Marijampolė and the Polish border starts and will be completed in 2024 – 2 years earlier than planned.
The road will be reconstructed into a four-lane highway. The entire section of the more than 40 km “Via Baltica” between Marijampolė and the Polish border should be completed by the end of 2024 and it is two years earlier than planned.
The new road will be one of the most significant advantages for the potencial investors of the Marijampolė FEZ (Baltic FEZ) to whom connections with other European countries are vitally important. Simonas Petrulis, the CEO of the Baltic FEZ, says that the improvement of the infrastructure of Marijampolė region is one of the keys of well-being not only for business, but also for the quality of life of residents.

New investment is coming to the Marijampolė Free Economic Zone (FEZ): a factory will be built, producing high added-value nutritional proteins. The project should be announced soon, and the year-long construction is expected to start in spring 2023.

On 12 May 2022, the members of the new KTU Council were elected at the conference for the election of the members of the Council of Kaunas University of Technology (KTU). Eleven members out of fourteen candidates in the election were elected for a five-year term of office.
According to the guidelines for the election of the Council members, nine members of KTU Council were elected and appointed during the conference – four external and five internal members of the Council. Two additional members – internal and external – were elected and appointed by KTU Students’ Association.

DOVISTA FURTHER INVESTMENTS IN THE BALTIC FEZ

The manufacturer of vertical windows and exterior doors, DOVISTA, announced further investments in their factory in the Baltic FEZ (Marijampole Free Economic Zone). It is aimed to consolidate product expertise, technology, and manufacturing in a modern production site.
DOVISTA factory in Marijampole started in 2017. The factory employs around 340 people from Marijampole and the surrounding municipalities. An addition of up to 250 employees will join DOVISTA in Marijampole when the project of consolidating a product platform concludes.

NEW DEVELOPMENT PHASE FOR BALTIC FEZ IN MARIJAMPOLE

Marijampolės laisvosios ekonominės zonos valdymo bendrovė, UAB (the Marijampolė Free Economic Zone Management Company, the ‘Baltic FEZ’) has started a new infrastructure development phase. Technical projects on the construction of a roundabout, a new road, and pedestrian and cycling infrastructure have been completed and delivered to the Marijampolė municipality for implementation. The technical documentation includes all requisite engineering systems such as electricity, water supply, sewerage, rainwater, gas and street lighting. The designing works were performed by Baltic Engineers, the company’s partner for industrial projects management and design of many years.
