On 12 May 2022, the members of the new KTU Council were elected at the conference for the election of the members of the Council of Kaunas University of Technology (KTU). Eleven members out of fourteen candidates in the election were elected for a five-year term of office.
According to the guidelines for the election of the Council members, nine members of KTU Council were elected and appointed during the conference – four external and five internal members of the Council. Two additional members – internal and external – were elected and appointed by KTU Students’ Association.
External members of the Council are the persons who are not members of the university staff and students (except for the persons who work or study at another higher education institution or are elected to the governing or self-governing bodies of other higher education institutions).
The Council members were elected from external candidates for each of the four seats according to the following areas of activities:
• high-tech industry field – Arvydas Paukštys, President of UAB Teltonika IoT Group, is elected to the Council;
• technology-intensive business area – Raimundas Petrauskas, General Manager of UAB Schmitz Cargobull Baltic, is elected to the Council;
• economy and/or financial administration field – Simonas Petrulis, General Director of UAB Marijampolės LEZ valdymo bendrovė, is elected to the Council;
• cultural/arts field, public sector – Egidijus Stancikas, General Director of Kaunas National Drama Theatre, is elected to the Council.
The internal members of the Council are lecturers and researchers who hold positions through competition and apply to become members of the Council.
Upon taking office, at the first meeting of the Council with the participation of the members of the Senate and other representatives of the University‘s academic community, a member of the Council signs an undertaking to act in the best interests of the University and society and perform the functions set forth in the Law on Higher Education and Research in good faith. A meeting of KTU Senate at which the members of the new Council will sign the undertakings is scheduled for 15 June.
